Day 53, February 22, 2013

Our friend, Ben Zeidman, is the
Assistant Rabbi at Temple Emanu-El
in NYC.  His parents, Hal and Diane
are two of our dearest friends.
Al and I met with Ben before services
and he gave us a lovely tour of  what is
regarded as "one of the most majestic
Synagogues in the world."

Temple Emanu-El was
established in 1845, first located
in the lower East Side, gradually making it's way
uptown.  In 1927 Temple Emanu-El
consolidated with Temple Beth El
at it's current location of
5th Avenue and 65th.
The Temple is 100 feet wide,
175 feet long and 103 feet high.
Seating for 2500 people.

"The mode of worship at Temple Emanu-El
has been called "Classical" Reform, today,
practical reform, a spirit in the congregation that
is open to inclusion, flexibility and sensitivity."
The service was lovely, the music intoxicating.
The sermon was done by Hannah Goldstein,
Rabbinic Intern.  She spoke about
New York Fashion Week and Purim.
The sermon was interesting and relevant.
Beautiful way to end the week.

Beth El Chapel,
Ben's favorite!

After Services, Hal, Diane, Al and I
went to dinner at Benjamin Steak House.
Delicious dinner, great conversation.
Lucky to have such wonderful friends!

Matzo Balls

Matzo Farfel and Mushroom Stuffing

Bubbe's Brisket

The tip of the day,
first wrap the brisket pan with
plastic wrap, then with

The plastic wrap does
not melt and seals in
moisture and comes
off leaving the crust.
